Atlee’s production venture Baby John is finally here just in time for Christmas. Helmed by Varun Dhawan, the much-awaited film has finally released in theaters (December 25, 2024). The action film featuring Keerthy Suresh, Wamiqa Gabbi and Jackie Shroff is facing competition with record-breaking Pushpa 2, Mufasa and other releases.
Baby John opens with good collection of Rs 12 crore on Crowded Christmas
Directed by Kelleys, Baby John has grossed Rs 12 crore in India on its opening day. Commercial expectations from Attlee’s production venture were high. But it should also be considered that it was a crowded Christmas due to the successful runs of Pushpa 2 and Mufasa: The Lion King in theatres. The Varun Dhawan-starrer has received mixed responses, but 2-3 weeks of open screenings will help it sustain.
While Baby John is expected to pick up its momentum over the weekend, it will see a slight drop in its earnings on Thursday, a day after the Christmas holidays. The action thriller will get stronger from Friday evening as the holiday mood sets in.
Can Varun Dhawan hit the ball out of the park this time?
With Baby John, Varun Dhawan makes his theatrical comeback as a lead actor after two years. Before directing Kallis, Varun’s last release in theaters was Amar Kaushik’s 2022 film Bhediya. This horror comedy starring Kriti Sanon was a below average grosser. Varun has not had pure theatrical success since the 2017 film Judwaa 2. Directed by his father, filmmaker David Dhawan, the reboot of the 1997 film Judwaa emerged as a superhit.
After a good start on Christmas, the action thriller’s earnings won’t drop much on Thursday, otherwise it will be difficult for the film to make a comeback. The makers of Baby John have also managed to promote it by collaborating with Salman Khan. The superstar, who has a cameo in the Varun-starrer, is definitely a crowd-puller and is expected to attract more cine-goers through the film’s performance.
