UI Box Office Day 1: Upendra’s film opens lower than Kabzaa
The Kannada film UI, starring and directed by Upendra, received good reviews, but earned less than expected on the first day, facing competition from Tamil and Telugu films.

Less than the expected amount of Rs 7.50 croreAlthough the film did not face any major competition from the Kannada belt, it clashed with the Tamil film Viduthalai Part. There’s no stopping Telugu film Pushpa 2 too, as it continues to shine at the box office and has crossed Rs 1000 crore global gross. Upendra’s film got an overall occupancy of 72.44 percent in the Kannada belt.
UI, starring Kiccha Sudeep and Shiva Rajkumar, failed to match Upendra’s last film Kabzaa. The film earned more than Rs 10 crore on the first day.

Upendra returned to the director’s chair after nine years With UI. Speaking to India Today Digital, he described the film as “psychological, commercial, political and a satirical entertainer”. He revealed that the project is full of metaphors, making it an interactive experience for the audience. “We created our own world. Every house, costume and element in the film represents something,” he said.
UI features Reshma Nanaiah playing the female lead along with Murali Sharma, P Ravi Shankar, Guruprasad, Nidhi Subbiah and others in important roles. It was released in theaters on 20 December.
