A man in China has been sentenced to 4 years in jail after he accidentally threw his six-month-old daughter out of the window, resulting in her death. according to South China Morning PostThe father, identified by his surname Zhao, was under the influence of alcohol when he threw his daughter out of the window of the sixth-floor flat. The girl was immediately taken to the hospital, where she was declared dead. A court in western China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region found the little girl’s father guilty of murder.
according to SCMPZhao had consumed some wine while dining out with his wife and daughter and returned home drunk. His wife left their crying child with Zhao while she did some household chores. When Zhao ignored the child’s cries, his wife expressed her dismay at his carelessness. As they began to argue, Zhao held the child in his arms and approached the window of their sixth-floor flat.
Then, amid the argument, while trying to rock the baby back and forth to comfort her, Zhao, being “drunk and emotionally charged”, accidentally threw her out the window, saying ” His hands had slipped”.
The couple then ran downstairs to find their daughter. Zhao took the girl to the hospital, where she was declared dead. Doctors attributed death to traumatic shock resulting from severe brain injury and damage to multiple organs.
The hospital called the police after the wife accused Zhao of throwing the girl out of the window. In court, the wife testified that Zhao drank alcohol almost every day but took care of their daughter.

The court determined that Zhao was guilty of murder rather than murder, and concluded that he had no motive to kill her and that he made genuine efforts to save her life, even taking her to the hospital after the incident. Also took the risk of drinking and driving. The court sentenced the father to four years in prison for his negligence which led to the death of his daughter.
Meanwhile, in a similar incident in 2021, a 3-year-old girl in China died after her parents left her in their car for five hours. Last year, a father allegedly left his 4-year-old daughter alone at the beach to retrieve her phone from the car. The girl was swept out to sea and her body was found two weeks later.
In both cases, the parents were not held legally responsible for negligence.
