If you’re a beer fan, you’ll understand that the rise of microbreweries in India is nothing short of remarkable. Once synonymous with cities like Bengaluru, the concept of craft beer has spread across the country, offering beer lovers something unique and local to drink. In Delhi, especially, there is a growing love for freshly brewed, traditional beer. Recently, I visited a newly opened venue in the city – Asur: Microbrewery & Kitchen – located in Moti Nagar.

My visit started with a quick tour of the wine making area. Huge stainless-steel tanks stood on the site, where the team worked on everything from brewing to fermentation. It was interesting to see the ingredients used in brewing the beer, different malts like Wheat Pale, Vienna, Cararoma etc and even hops like Mosaic, Willamette, Columbus, Saaz etc. Each of these ingredients played an important role in this. The character of the beer – whether it’s sweetness, bitterness, or aroma.

Once the tour was over, I was ready to try their beers. Their craft beer menu features six different options – each with its own charm. First up, there’s Scotch Ale: smooth and lightly smoky with a hint of caramel sweetness. Perfect for those who like easy beers. Next came the IPA (New England): hop-forward with juicy tropical flavors, this is for those who like bold, tart beers. There Marzen is a crisp and refreshing German-style lager, simple but perfectly balanced.

Then came the stout – with the rich and creamy flavors of coffee and chocolate – this drink is almost as smooth and delicious as dessert. The last two are Witbier and X-Tra Strong Lager. The first is a light, sour and refreshing drink with a hint of orange peel, while the second is bold, salty and packs a punch for those who enjoy a stronger kick.

Personally, fruity and citrusy flavors are my preference, so I liked Witbier the most.

After enjoying our beer, we headed straight to the food menu. I started with a variety of starters that create the perfect ambiance for the meal. Ordering first at the table, I started with the Classic Chili Chicken, which was spicy, tangy and had just the right amount of heat.

Next, I got a craving for seafood, and what better way to satisfy it than ordering the delicious and juicy Amritsari Fish? It was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside – a perfect blend of taste and texture. Butter Garlic Prawns, with their juicy and buttery goodness, definitely grabs everyone’s attention. Even the Dahi Ke Kebab was a perfect accompaniment to this group of dishes.

To wash down the starters, I had two drinks – Mister Banarasia and Bloody Alloy. The former had a refreshing flavor that reminded me of classic Banarasi notes, while the latter was bold and unique and had a beautiful orange color.

For the main course, I enjoyed butter chicken and naan, a combination I can never say no to. The butter chicken was rich, creamy and had the perfect balance of sweetness and spice. With soft naan, it was comfort food at its best. To round out my experience, I made two desserts – a New York Cheesecake topped with raspberry sauce. And the irresistible chocolate mud cake. Dense, rich and very sticky, it was every chocolate lover’s dream.
