Both films are adapted from Gregory Maguire’s acclaimed 1995 novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, which reimagines the origin story of the Wicked Witch of the West and her former friendship with Glinda the Good Witch.

Stephen Schwartz’s musical adaptation, which included iconic songs such as Defying Gravity and For Good, opened on Broadway in 2003, starring Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel.

Produced by Marc Platt, the films’ script was written by original Broadway musical book writer Winnie Holzman in collaboration with Cruella co-writer Dana Fox. The two-part adaptation aims to capture the magic and emotional depth of the Broadway production while expanding on its beloved stories.

With the new title reflecting the core theme of friendship and redemption, anticipation continues to grow for Wicked: Good.
