Liverpool Football Club (LFC)’s annual staff Christmas party at the city’s Anglican Cathedral on Thursday (October 12) had to be closed early after officers found drug paraphernalia in the toilets. According to a report, the Merseyside team had rented out the Cathedral, one of the city’s most iconic landmarks, for a party for around 500 staff members. new York Times (NYT). Following an unrelated medical emergency at the venue, officers conducted a search of the venue, resulting in the discovery of suspected drug paraphernalia in the toilets. A staff member in the emergency room received medical treatment after fainting, but it is not believed to be related to the drug discovery.
After the discovery, club officials decided to shut down the party 30 minutes before the bar closed. The club also released a statement, stating that it does not condone the presence of illegal substances.
The club said, “We do not condone or tolerate the use of illegal substances at any of our sites or events. We thank the events team at the venue for their prompt action and professional response to the medical emergency, which was unrelated to Was.”
