Malayalam actor Meghanathan passed away today, November 21. He was 60 years old. According to a report in Mathrubhumi, he succumbed to complications of a lung-related illness. The actor was undergoing treatment in Kozhikode when he breathed his last at a private hospital.
Meghnathan is now survived by his wife Susmita and a daughter named Parvati. The actor’s last rites will be held at his home in Shoranur, Kerala.
Soon after his demise, netizens took to their social media handles to express their grief. An ex user wrote, “Popular Malayalam character actor #Meghanathan (60), who became popular in negative roles, passes away in Kozhikode hospital! RIP.”
Meghanathan is the third child of famous Malayalam star Balan K Nair and his wife Saradha Nair. He was born in Trivandrum, Kerala. He has two brothers named Anil and Ajaykumar, as well as two sisters, Lata and Sujatha. Meghanathan studied at Asan Memorial Association in Chennai and obtained a Diploma in Automobile Engineering from Coimbatore.
Despite holding an engineering degree, he followed his father’s footsteps and entered the Malayalam film industry. To date, Meghnathan has been a part of around 50 films.
He made his acting debut in 1983 with the Malayalam film Ashtaram. The film starred Mohanlal and Mammootty in the lead roles. The film, directed by PN Menon, also featured Shalini Ajith in the lead role.
Some of Meghanathan’s best films include Panchagni, Bhoomi Geetam, Malappuram Haji Mahanaya Joji, Mannadir Penninu Chenkotta Chekkan, Chandranudikkunna Dikkil and Vasanthiyum Lakshmiyum Pinne Njanam.
In recent times, some of his best movies are Kooman, Johnny Johnny Yes Appa, Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol, Picket 43, Kanichukulangarayil CBI, Yes Your Honor, 1971: Beyond Borders, Sunday Holiday, Mr. and Miss Rowdy and more.
