Tamil Nadu producers demand ban on YouTube reviews in theaters after Kanguva backlash
Tamil Nadu Producers Council issued a statement requesting theater owners to ban fan interviews on YouTube channels. This comes after Suriya’s Kanguva received significant negative response from YouTube reviews on its opening day.
Tamil Nadu Producers Council (TNPC) issued a statement on Wednesday, November 20, urging theater owners to ban YouTube channels from conducting fan interviews on theater premises after first-day-first-show (FDFS) screenings. He also requested cooperation in completely eliminating the practice of FDFS public reviews and opinions.
In a detailed four-page letter, Tamil Nadu Producers Council criticized “Inciting personal attacks and hatred in the guise of film reviews.” He said that films like Indian 2, Vettaiyaan, And Kanguva faced significant setbacks due to public reviews shared on YouTube after FDFS screening.
The letter comes after the release of Suriya’s film Kanguva on November 14, which received a lot of negative feedback from YouTube reviews and opinion videos after the first day of release (FDFS).

TNPC accepted it Journalists can criticize the merits of a film And Weaknesses But it was stressed that attempts to weaken the entire film through personal attacks and reviews are unacceptable. He warned that such practices could ultimately harm the film industry as a whole.
“Critics have every right to review films. But we request all journalists to write film reviews keeping in mind that the seeds of hatred towards any film should not be sown in the media due to personal grudges. All associations related to the film industry should come together and stop this practice by not encouraging it anymore,” an excerpt from the letter read.
Surya’s Kanguva was released in theaters on November 14. And it is getting mixed reviews. While the technical aspects of the film have been praised, it has been criticized for its complex story and poor execution.
