Bengaluru Police will challenge actor Darshan’s interim bail in the Renukaswamy murder case.

Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayanand on Tuesday announced that an appeal will soon be filed in the Supreme Court challenging the interim bail granted to Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa in the Renukaswamy murder case.

The 47-year-old actor was granted relief by the Karnataka High Court on October 30, allowing him to undergo spine surgery. He was kept in jail for more than four months before being released on medical grounds. Dayanand confirmed that the process of filing an appeal is underway and the matter will be taken up as soon as possible.

On November 13, Home Minister G Parameshwara also addressed the issue, saying, “I have told the Secretary of the Home Department that if they want to appeal in the High Court in the Darshan case, they can go ahead. “

Darshan was arrested on June 11 along with 15 co-accused, including his friend Pavitra Gowda, who is currently lodged in a Bengaluru jail.

After Darshan was initially lodged in Bengaluru’s Parappana Agrahara jail, visuals emerged showing the actor receiving special treatment. A video also surfaced, which shows Darshan interacting with a fan over a video call. Following these revelations, the Karnataka government shifted him to Ballari jail and suspended the jail officials involved in the case.

Police have said that Renukaswamy, a 33-year-old fan of the actor, had allegedly sent obscene messages to Pavitra, which enraged Darshan and he is said to have committed the murder.

On June 9, Renukaswamy’s body was found near a storm drain in Sumanahalli. Officials believe that Raghavendra, a fan club member of Chitradurga’s Darshan, lured Renukaswamy to a shed in RR Nagar on the pretext of meeting the actor. It was here that Renukaswami was allegedly tortured and killed.

The post mortem report confirmed that Renukaswamy died due to shock and haemorrhage due to multiple blunt force injuries. Police have described Pavitra as the “prime reason” for the murder and claimed that she instigated and conspired with other accused, including Darshan, to commit the crime.
