Actress Disha Patani has been in the news online after reports surfaced that her father Jagdish Singh Patani has become a victim of a Rs 25 lakh scam in Uttar Pradesh. Allegedly, five persons duped them by assuring them of securing a prestigious role in a government commission.
An FIR has been lodged at Bareilly’s Kotwali police station after a complaint by retired Deputy Superintendent of Police and father of actress Disha Patani, Jagdish Singh Patani, that he was cheated of Rs 25 lakh. According to PTI, Patani was introduced to Diwakar Garg and Acharya Jaiprakash of Juna Akhara by one of his well-known associates, Shivendra Pratap Singh.
He, along with Preeti Garg and another unidentified person, allegedly promised them a high-ranking post in a government commission by claiming political influence. The accused allegedly collected Rs 5 lakh in cash and Rs 20 lakh through bank transfer in three accounts.
When several months passed without any result, he assured Patani that his money would be returned with interest. However, when Disha Patani’s father pressed for repayment, he reportedly resorted to threats and aggressive behaviour. He also accused the group of betraying him by introducing an accomplice, named Himanshu, as an alleged ‘Special Duty Officer’ to strengthen its claims. Suspecting a widespread scam, he contacted the police, which resulted in an FIR being lodged against five persons on charges of fraud, extortion and intimidation.

On the professional front, Disha Patani recently stepped into Tamil cinema with her debut film Kanguva, where she stars opposite Suriya. The film, which also stars Bobby Deol in a pivotal role, was released in theaters on November 14, 2024.
