Ever since we were kids, we’ve been warned about mixing certain foods with dairy. The reason? Some people say that this combination can disturb digestion, cause discomfort and more. This is a belief that has been around forever and is a part of many family traditions. We’ve all heard different food myths, and honestly, most of us follow them without questioning why. One of the biggest? Mixing non-veg with dairy is prohibited. But is there any truth in this? Let’s see what the experts say.

Should you eat non-veg food with dairy?
Nutritionist Amita Gadre says the idea that you should not mix dairy and non-vegetarian food together is just a myth. There is no real science that shows that eating them together causes harm. Your body uses different enzymes to break down proteins and fats from both dairy and meat, so there’s no conflict in digestion. We spoke to consultant nutritionist Rupali Dutta, who disagrees with the age-old norm of not mixing meat with dairy. “There are many studies that show that eating meat and milk together does not cause any harm. So, in my opinion, it is safe to mix and consume the two without having negative effects on your body.”
Mixing dairy with non-veg is more common than you think
It’s actually very common to combine non-vegan foods with dairy. Many traditional dishes – such as chicken marinated in yogurt or fish cooked in creamy sauce – are popular in India and around the world. It’s not just delicious; It’s nutritious too! Think of all those butter chicken and mutton gravies where dairy is the key to taste.
So, what’s the last word?
According to experts, the combination of dairy and non-veg is absolutely fine. If you are lactose intolerant or suffer from allergies, it’s a good idea to skip this combo for obvious reasons. But if you don’t have these problems, your body can handle both well.
