Action director Sham Kaushal, who has been working in films for the last 40 years, revealed that he still feels scared while directing stunts involving fire and water. In a recent interview, Sham recalled shooting the fire scene in Farah Khan’s Om Shanti Om (2007) starring Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone. After completing the scene, Sham said he cried and felt like he was going to have a heart attack.

in a presence at Sutradhar with Vineet Rai podcast, Sham explained that no stunt is easy. “Every morning I go to shoots scared, hoping and praying that everything will go well. You can’t control fire and water (You can’t control fire and water),” he said.

Then I remembered the scene of fire in the evening Om Shanti OmWhere Shahrukh Khan’s character Om saves Deepika Padukone’s Shantipriya from fire. “It was very stressful for me,” he said, “We had a set in Film City and we had to set fire to it. There was no VFX in 2007. Seventy people from my team had to set fire to the curtains.” There were three cameras. Then they had to extinguish the fire within a few seconds. If any of the curtains had remained on fire longer than desired, it could have been a disaster, as there were about 125 people on the set.”

Shahrukh Khan remained calm amidst such a tense situation. The actor’s comforting words came to mind in the evening: “Paaji, don’t take tension, I will leave like this. (Brother, don’t worry. I will come out like this).

The scene was completed successfully without any casualties, but Sham admitted that the experience had a deep impact on him emotionally. He shared, “These were the moments that kill you, and you feel like you’re going to have a heart attack. I break down at times.”

Deepika Padukone made her Bollywood debut with Om Shanti Om, released in 2007. The film was a massive hit and grossed Rs 150 crore globally.
