US woman sues EgyptAir for $5 million after poisonous beverage spills on her

A New York woman is suing EgyptAir for $5 million in damages, claiming she was attacked by a “torrent” while she was boarding a flight from John F. Kennedy Airport to Cairo, according to a report. Drink” was sprinkled. NY PostThe woman has been identified as 35-year-old Esra Hazeen, who said she suffered “second-degree burns” from the hot fluid. According to Brooklyn federal court documents, the incident occurred earlier in February this year when the beverage held in a “lidless cup” of tea flew out of the “malfunctioning” seat tray and landed on top of her.

After the drinks were served, the flight encountered “significant turbulence” which led to the incident. The lawsuit alleged that the flight crew “failed to suspend service prior to the disturbance or issue a warning of impending disturbance”.

Hazan’s attorney, Abram Bohrer, informed the outlet that his client suffered second-degree burns on his lower abdomen, right inner thigh and buttocks. “It didn’t need to be that way for the price of the lid,” he said.

EgyptAir had not commented on the incident until last updated.

previous case

The case is similar to a 2019 incident when a four-year-old girl in Florida, US, suffered second-degree burns after a hot McDonald’s Chicken McNugget fell on her thigh. Philana Holmes took her son and daughter to a Tamarack McDonald’s and bought Happy Meals when they ordered them, but she wasn’t warned about the spicy nature of the food.

After receiving the food package, Ms. Holmes gave it to her daughter and son sitting in the back seat of the car and drove away. Moments later, her daughter, identified in court as Olivia Caraballo, an autistic child, immediately began screaming, forcing Ms. Holmes to stop in the parking lot.

After a four-year legal battle, in July 2023 a South Florida jury awarded Caraballo $800,000 in damages, after the family had initially sought $15 million in damages.

“I’m really pleased that they heard Olivia’s voice and that, the jury was able to make a fair decision, I’m pleased with that,” Ms Holmes said at the time.
