A joint Egyptian-American mission of archaeologists has been shocked after unearthing 11 sealed tombs in a tomb near the South Assassif Necropolis, next to the temple of Hatshepsut on the west bank of the Nile in Luxor. Jewelery and Mirror
However, the discovery included exquisitely crafted jewelery as well as a statue which has been described as an “important find”. The necklace was a unique find as it contained “30 cylinder-shaped beads of sapphire stone and two cylinder beads of agate surrounding the head of a hippopotamus”.
Archaeologists found bronze mirrors inside two tombs, one of which had a lotus-shaped handle, the other a rare design of the goddess Hathor’s face, which had four faces showing her as a woman with stern features.
“The fertile blue and green Venetian stone with truncated feet, well designed and decorated with a variety of ornaments, and her hair painted black; about 4,000 clay beads were found next to the small statue , which makes up her natural hair,” said Dr. Elena Bychkova, Director of the South Sensitive Cowdace Preservation Project.
Earlier in June this year, 36 tombs were discovered in the city of Aswan, located on the east bank of the Nile River and founded 4,500 years ago, each containing 20 to 40 mummies.
