Innovations that showcase China’s technological potential often make headlines and attract people around the world with their progress in this field. Recently, a video showing the “palm payment” method at a shop in China went viral on Instagram. This has led many to talk about the advantages and disadvantages of such technology, as well as what it means for other countries supporting cashless/digital payments. The reel was shared by Pakistani content creator Rana Hamza Saif. In the clip, we can see him and a group of friends briefly discussing this payment mode. Then they enter a grocery store in Xuzhou and show us how it works.

At the billing counter, one of the people in the group explains that there are several cashless payment options available. These include payment by scanning your phone and a QR code. But the second is even simpler: just a quick exposure of your palm to a scanner. We see the person display it and the cashier indicates that payment has been made. Another person in the group also scans the same palm to make the payment. Vloggers are amazed at how quick and seamless this form of transaction is.

The viral video has been viewed more than 10 million times so far. In the comments, some people praised this technology while some people were not completely convinced. Some people wanted it to be adopted in other countries also. Earlier, another video detailing this Palm payment method had taken social media by storm a few months ago. An excerpt from a report was shared by industrialist Harsh Goenka on X. In the clip, the presenter is seen registering her palm print on a device at a metro station and then uses her hand to pay for her ticket.
