New leak suggests that Google Pixel 9a may use the same camera as the Pixel 9 Pro Fold

Rumors about the Pixel 9a are heating up even before Google officially unveils it. After the recent announcement of the Pixel 9 series, tech enthusiasts have been speculating about the features of the upcoming Pixel 9a. Although we don’t have a launch date yet, some interesting details have emerged, especially about its camera and chipset.

According to a report from Android Authority, the Pixel 9a, codenamed “tegu”, is expected to have the same 48-megapixel camera sensor as the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, which is currently the most expensive phone in Google’s lineup. This could mean that the Pixel 9a is set to offer impressive photography capabilities at a more budget-friendly price.

On the chipset front, it looks like the Pixel 9a will be powered by the Google Tensor G4 processor, the same chip that fuels the Pixel 9 series. However, don’t expect it to be that powerful. The Pixel 9a’s G4 chip will use Integrated Package on Package (IPoP) technology, which is thicker and runs hotter than the fan-out panel level packaging (FOPLP) found in the Pixel 9. However, this may reduce performance slightly. This helps keep costs down, which is essential for the A series.

Another notable difference is the modem. The Pixel 9a will be equipped with the older Exynos modem 5300, which was previously used in the Pixel 8 series. This is in contrast to the Pixel 9’s new Exynos modem 5400, which boasts better efficiency and advanced 5G features. By choosing an older modem, Google is probably trying to strike a balance between affordability and good performance.

As more details emerge, it will be interesting to see how Google plans to differentiate the A series from its flagship models. The Pixel 9a could mark the beginning of a new identity for the A series, giving users a unique option within the Pixel family.

In case you missed it, the Pixel 8a features a vibrant 6.1-inch OLED Actua display with a resolution of 1080 x 2400 and a 120 Hz refresh rate. It’s bright, reaching 2000 nits, and supports HDR, promising a great viewing experience. The design is reminiscent of its predecessors, with a matte finish and polished aluminum frame, but the camera module has a new look with a horizontal strap housing the two sensors.

At just 188 grams, the Pixel 8a is compact and measures 152.1 mm x 72.7 mm x 8.9 mm, making it comfortable to hold. Inside, it’s equipped with the Tensor G3 chipset and Titan M2 security coprocessor, as well as 8GB of LPDDR5x RAM, which shares many of the AI features seen in the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro.
