According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is working on Project Greymatter to bring a set of AI tools that the company will integrate into core apps like Safari, Photos and others, with a special focus on Siri or Siri 2.0, making the virtual assistant a whole lot more powerful. Aimed at enhancing the user experience across various core apps, these updates will make Siri more intuitive, capable and integrated with everyday tasks, taking advantage of advanced AI and natural language processing. Here’s a list of features expected to come soon to Siri after the next generation of Apple’s operating system is announced, according to Apple Insider.

Apple will bring advanced Siri capabilities to its main apps

Books: According to a report by Apple Insider, Siri will soon assist users in navigating the Books app, allowing them to open specific books, change themes, turn pages, and find audiobooks or PDFs. This will be especially useful for those who are not familiar with the app’s UI.

Camera: Siri will also make photo and video capture easier, allowing users to toggle recording, switch between camera modes, and set timers via voice commands. This feature will help users who struggle with manual camera settings.

Keynote Address: In Keynote, Siri will facilitate the creation and editing of presentations. Users can add multimedia elements to slides, create new presentations, and display the activity stream to see recent changes.

Match: Siri in Mail will get several new features, including sending and reverting emails, blocking senders, archiving and flagging messages. Machine learning will help categorize emails and Smart Replies will help deliver quick responses, boosting productivity for users handling large volumes of emails.

notes: Siri will also soon make it easier to manage notes by creating, renaming, and deleting folders and tags. Audio recording, transcription, and summary features will also be integrated, making this app a powerful tool for both students and professionals.

Photos: Siri will help users find specific objects, people, or places in their photo library. Additionally, users can edit photos, create albums, and apply filters through voice commands. The new clean up tool powered by generative AI will enable users to remove unwanted objects from photos.

reminder: Siri will also assist in creating and organizing reminders and lists. Integration with the Calendar app will allow users to manage reminders directly from their calendar, streamlining task management for busy individuals.

Safari: Siri will provide capabilities such as reading or summarizing webpage content, managing tab groups, and opening private tabs. These features will assist visually impaired users and improve browsing efficiency.

stock: Siri will also help users stay updated with market news and manage watchlists. This functionality is designed to help less tech-savvy investors keep track of their investments.

voice memos: Siri will enhance the Voice Memos app, enabling users to create, pause, delete, and search for recordings. Audio transcription will make it easier to organize and retrieve important recordings.

System Settings: Siri will be able to access specific settings areas such as brightness, home screen, and the App Library. This will make it easier for all users to navigate complex settings menus.

Freeform and Files: Siri will support document scanning in the Files app and board management in Freeform, making document management and creative collaboration easier.

Contacts and Magnifier: Siri will edit contact details and describe objects in the Magnifier app or identify people and doors, improving accessibility for visually impaired users.

Non-AI upgrades

Apart from Siri enhancements, iOS 18 will reportedly bring updates to other apps as well. The Calculator app is expected to be redesigned for macOS 15 and introduced on iPad, featuring a History Tape sidebar and improved unit conversions. The Maps app will allow users to add personal notes to specific locations, enhancing the user experience with relevant information.
