After Meta introduced Meta AI to WhatsApp earlier this year, the go-to messenger app is working to make it more user-friendly. From the application’s MetaAI being used as a personal assistant director to it being available in Hindi as well, all the features have helped users make it easier with WhatsApp. And now, according to WABeta, it is working on a new feature called Chat Memories. The purpose of this feature is to record all the necessary information told to MetaAI to better personalize the personal assistant. For example, if the chat assistant knows you’re a vegetarian, it will share recipes accordingly. However, this may also be the characteristic that requires boundaries. Currently, the feature is a work in progress and we only have limited information. Let’s see what this feature can do.
chat memory feature of whatsapp
WhatsApp is considering a new feature that allows Meta AI to automatically remember certain details previously shared with the chatbot, which will be released in a future update. This feature aims to provide users with more relevant and tailored responses based on information held by Meta AI about their preferences. The AI will be able to remember various personal details, including personal preferences like vegetarianism, dietary choices like birthday, and the formal tone of the conversation. Additionally, it can keep track of allergies and interests, including hobbies, favorite books and documentaries, and podcasts.
This memory feature is designed to improve the personalization of Meta AI interactions. By maintaining such information, Meta AI can provide recommendations, advice and responses that better match the user’s preferences and lifestyle. For example, if a user requests food recommendations, Meta AI will avoid suggesting dishes that the user has previously said they dislike or are allergic to. This degree of customization promotes more natural and engaging interactions, allowing Meta AI to function more like a personal assistant.
According to the report, users will have complete control over what Meta AI remembers, allowing them to update or delete specific information whenever they want.
Concerns related to memory devices
Previously, several companies had drawn on the similar “memory” aspect of it. Microsoft created a feature called Recall, which has been consistently criticized for intruding into a user’s personal space. Similarly, Google released Pixel screenshots, a lighter and saner version of the recall. With Pixel Screenshot the company only allowed recording screenshots. This way, the user has the authority to choose which details to record. It is worth noting that currently the WABeta report also states that users will have the power to save whatever they want. However, this feature will be visible only after its release.
