Langar, or community kitchen, is central to Sikhism, symbolizing compassion, equality and service. Food is prepared and served to everyone. It is a practice that breaks down barriers, promotes selflessness and community spirit. A recent video has taken social media by storm, showing a group of Sikh men preparing a unique variation of traditional langar with banana milkshake. The video on Instagram page ‘@amritsarislive’ shows people peeling huge quantities of bananas and placing them neatly on a plate before putting them in a large mixer. With precision, they pour in fresh milk, mixing it into a creamy mixture. The banana milkshake is then poured into larger containers, ready to be served to visitors in small plastic glasses. The smiles and happy expressions on the faces of people enjoying the drink say it all – this healthy, refreshing drink was clearly a hit.
