US Billionaire Undergoes Total Plasma Exchange to Remove Toxins: What Is It?

American billionaire Brian Johnson underwent his first total plasma exchange (TPE) to ‘remove toxins’ from his body. He said he replaced it with albumin, which is a protein made by the liver.

American billionaire Brian Johnson recently underwent a procedure called Total Plasma Exchange (TPE) and claimed it was a cure for various health conditions.

In his recent post on X, he mentioned that this procedure, which involves removing and replacing a patient’s plasma, is gaining attention because of its potential to manage and cure a variety of diseases.

Plasma is the liquid part of blood that carries cells, nutrients, hormones, and waste throughout the body.

He wrote, “TPE removes all the plasma from my body and replaces it with albumin. The purpose of the therapy is to remove toxins from my body. The evidence is in.”

Albumin is a protein made by the liver that helps maintain fluid balance, transport nutrients, and support tissue function. It prevents leakage of fluid from blood vessels and plays an important role in medical treatment. Low levels of albumin may indicate liver, kidney problems or malnutrition.

It is also used medically in treatments, such as to replenish lost blood volume or during certain medical procedures such as plasma exchange.

Brian Johnson had previously replaced one liter of plasma in his body with the exact same amount of plasma from his son and donated his plasma to his father. When his father received the plasma, Johnson claimed “his aging slowed down by 25 years and remained that way for six months.”

The billionaire revealed that the total plasma exchange or TPE took 2 hours.

What is total plasma exchange?

Total plasma exchange or therapeutic plasma exchange is a medical procedure where a large amount of plasma is removed from a patient’s blood and replaced with donor plasma or plasma substitute.

This process helps eliminate harmful substances, including autoantibodies, immune complexes, and toxins, from the bloodstream.

Research has shown that TPE may affect the treatment of autoimmune diseases, neurological disorders, and blood disorders.

For example, a study published by the American Society of Hematology highlighted the effectiveness of TPE in treating conditions such as myasthenia gravis, Guillain-Barré syndrome, and thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura1.

TPE has been used for the management of critically ill patients in intensive care units, demonstrating its versatility and life-saving potential.

Can TPE remove toxins?

While research about TPE is emerging and limited, it may have the ability to remove toxins from the body. However, there is no direct link.

By filtering plasma, TPE can reduce the levels of various toxins, including certain medications and metabolic waste products.

In a 2023 study, Romanian researchers indicated that TPE could reduce inflammatory markers such as interleukin-6 (IL-6) and C-reactive protein (CRP), which are often elevated in patients with severe infections or inflammatory conditions. Let’s go.

This reduction in markers of inflammation may improve clinical outcomes and reduce hospitalization time.

As medical technology advances, the applications of TPE are expected to expand.

Ongoing research is exploring its use in treating conditions such as sepsis, with earlier studies showing a possible reduction in mortality.
