WWDC 2024: iOS 18 with AI, iPadOS 18 with more creative features and more
Apple’s WWDC 2024 is expected to focus on new AI-powered features in iOS, iPadOS, and macOS that will enhance user experience and privacy.
Apple’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) has always been one of the company’s biggest events, with the company unveiling new software capabilities in its devices. This year too, Apple is going all out again; however, this time WWDC will focus on software only, as revealed by Mark Gurman, reportedly pushing any hardware announcements ahead of time. The spotlight will be on new AI features integrated into iPhones, iPads, and Macs.
Here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming WWDC 2024.

WWDC 18 announced for iOS 2024
AI improvements: At WWDC 2023, Apple introduced AI-powered features with its software. This year, iOS 18 promises a big leap forward with several new AI functionalities. The initiative, called Project Greymatter, will integrate AI into core apps like Photos, Safari, Messages, and Notes.
Key features of iOS 18 include:
Smart Recap: Summarizes individual texts, emails, notes, documents, and web pages.
- Voice memo transcription: Building on the capabilities of iOS 17.
- Advanced Spotlight: Faster and more reliable searches.
- Custom emoji creation: Real-time emoji creation based on text.
- Suggested Answer: AI-generated responses to texts and emails.
- “Cleaning” photos: Similar to Google’s Magic Eraser for removing objects from pictures.
Privacy: Apple also reportedly plans to balance AI enhancements with privacy. Less demanding AI features will run on-device using the Ajax language learning model, while more intensive tasks will take advantage of cloud computing powered by Apple’s custom silicon.
Powerful Siri: Significant upgrades to Siri, called Siri 2.0, are also expected. This includes a generative AI system for more conversational interactions and improved task handling. Although an Apple-designed AI chatbot is not possible, there is the possibility of partnerships with third parties like OpenAI to integrate ChatGPT in iOS.
additional features: iOS 18 may also include customisable home screens, redesigns for the Settings and Photos apps, and new features in the Messages and Notes apps. Support for Rich Communication Services (RCS), which will improve cross-platform messaging between iOS and Android, is also expected.
iPadOS 18 announced at WWDC 2024
Like iOS 18, iPadOS 18 is expected to include most of the features of iOS 18, including AI features. With the recent release of the M4 chip for iPads, expect AI-powered enhancements that take advantage of this new hardware. New accessibility features are also expected, such as eye-tracking controls and spoken shortcuts.
WWDC 2024 announced for macOS 15
- macOS 15 is said to be the highlight of the WWDC 2024 event, with several AI features to be announced. According to rumors, the new MacOs may include these features:
- Redesigned Calculator app: Similar to the iOS version, with history tape and math notes integration.
- UI changes: New Siri icon, revised system settings, and unified page controls in Safari.
- Intelligent Search: Using Ajax LLM to Summarize Web Content.
- watchOS 11 announced at WWDC 2024
- Incremental updates to watchOS 11 are also expected to arrive. These could include enhanced Siri capabilities for on-the-go tasks and fitness app upgrades. Support for the Apple Watch Series 4 may end, reflecting a shift towards newer models.
visionOS 2.0 announced at WWDC 2024
For the Vision Pro, Apple is expected to release VisionOS 2.0, which will be built on the foundation of the Vision Pro mixed-reality headset. Expected updates include native apps for Calendar, Books and Maps, and a possible breathing tracking feature for guided meditations. Increasing accessibility while improving usability for all users is also on the agenda.
In addition to the flagship operating system, updates to tvOS 18 and HomePod software 18 are also expected, though specific details are still under wraps.
