American singer-songwriter R Kelly’s daughter Buku Abi has alleged that her father sexually abused her in her childhood. He made the shocking revelation in a documentary on TVEI streaming network.
The singer is already serving a long sentence for several sex crimes.
Buku Abi, who is 26, said in the podcast that she owed her father “everything” and was unable to accept what he was doing to her. Abi said she was too afraid to share her ordeal with her mother. The woman said, “He was my everything. For a long time I didn’t want to believe that this happened. I didn’t know that even though he was a bad person, he would do something to me.” Documentary, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
In the two-part documentary, Abi’s mother, Drea Kelly, said the singer should not have abused her child. His ex-wife said, “Whatever he did to me, he did to me. But you didn’t have to do that to my children.”
“I really feel like that one millisecond changed my whole life and changed who I was as a person and changed the glow that I had and the light that I had. When I told my mother Told me, I didn’t go there any more,” Abiy said, according to People,
She said that she is still struggling with childhood trauma. She said, “My brother (Robert) and sister (Jah), we never went there. And even now, I struggle with it a lot.”
Kelly’s attorney Jennifer Bonjean told People That the singer-songwriter “vigorously denies” the allegations.
The lawyer said Kelly’s ex-wife had made the same allegation several years earlier. The attorney claimed that the allegations were investigated by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services and declared “unfounded.” The representative said the documentary makers did not give the singer a chance to deny the “hurtful claims”.
Kelly was convicted of sex trafficking in 2021.
