Mithun Chakraborty honored with Dadasaheb Phalke Award; Dharmendra gave hearty congratulations: ‘I will come to hug you’

Mithun Chakraborty received Indian cinema’s most prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award during a ceremony held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. The 70th National Awards were presented by President Draupadi Murmu. At the age of 74, Mithun is celebrated for his stellar performances in films like Agneepath, Mujhe Insaaf Chahiye and many more. Following the achievement, his longtime friend and fellow actor Dharmendra shared a heartfelt congratulatory message on social media, expressing his happiness over the achievement.

Dharmendra shared a picture with Mithun Chakraborty and congratulated him on receiving the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award. He expressed his appreciation and asked Mithun to pass on his love to the family.

Dharmendra mentioned that although he is out of India at the moment, he will make sure to return and give Mithun a big hug in person.

The post read, “Dear Mithun, congratulations for India’s most prestigious award Dadasaheb Phalke. Give my love to everyone at home. I am out of India but I will definitely come to give you a big hug.”

Before the ceremony, the actor said on the red carpet, “What can I say? Such a huge honor – I can only thank God. What I struggled for, God has given me back everything. I’m still processing it.” I am doing it.”

Chakraborty shared her experiences of being trolled and insulted in the industry because of her dark skin. Recalling being told that there was no place for dark skinned individuals in the film industry, she said she faced as many insults as possible.

Mithun Da, as he is fondly known, mentioned that he used to complain to God about his appearance. Eventually he reached a point where he decided to look beyond his skin color and focus on his dancing abilities.

Known as India’s original ‘disco dancer’, the veteran actor commented that he decided to take up dancing because he wanted people to pay attention to his legs rather than his face or skin colour. He said that dancing with his feet in his films made the audience ignore his complexion.

Previous recipients of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award include famous personalities like Amitabh Bachchan, Waheeda Rehman, Rekha, Asha Parekh and Rajinikanth. Earlier this year, Mithun Chakraborty was also awarded the Padma Bhushan, India’s third highest civilian award.
