Alec Baldwin’s Rust to Premiere at Camerimage Cinematography Festival
Alec Baldwin’s film Rust is set to have its highly anticipated world premiere at the EnergiaCamerimage International Cinematography Film Festival in Poland next month. The event will include a panel discussion on completing the film following the tragic death of cinematographer Halina Hutchins.
Nearly three years after the tragic, sudden death of cinematographer Halina Hutchins on the set of Alec Baldwin’s film Rust, the film is scheduled to have its world premiere next month, in November, at the EnergiaCamerimage International Cinematography Film Festival in Toruń, Poland.
The screening will be followed by a panel discussion featuring director Joel Souza, who was injured in a gun accident during filming in New Mexico in October 2021.
Souza will be joined by cinematographer Bianca Cline, who completed the film after Hutchins’ death, and Hutchins’ mentor Stephen Lighthill from the American Film Institute. The panel will cover a variety of topics including the completion of the film, safety measures on set and the role of women in cinematography.
Rust tells the story of a 13-year-old boy who, after losing his parents in 1880s Wyoming, is left to care for his younger brother. A boy sentenced to death for accidentally murdering a local cattleman goes on the run with his estranged grandfather.
“Maintaining Hutchins’s artistic vision, as challenging as it was for the entire team, was really important to the filmmakers, who were expected to fulfill their duty to produce his work. Thanks to Cline’s skill Thankfully, the cinematography remains consistent throughout the film,” reads the announcement from Camerimage.
Festival director Marek Zydowicz spoke about Hutchins, saying, “We knew our program was important to him, and he felt at home among cinematographers from around the world who have gathered at Camerimage for more than 30 years. Are.” He said that during the 2021 edition of Camerimage, just weeks after the accident, “we honored Halina’s memory with a moment of silence and a panel of cinematographers discussed safety on set. Now, once again, together with cinemagoers and film lovers, we will have this special opportunity to remember him.
The premiere of Rust at Camerimage will serve as a touching tribute to Hutchins’s work and legacy within the global film community.
