British pop band Coldplay recently announced that they will retire from making music albums after releasing their 12th studio album. The band’s lead singer Chris Martin shared the news in an interview. His 10th album will be released on 4 October 2024.

He said, “We’re only going to make 12 proper albums and that’s real. Having that limit means the quality control is just so high and it’s almost impossible for one song to make it, which is great. And so “Stay ashore where we can, we’re trying to improve.”

Chris Martin explained that the decision to limit Coldplay’s discography to 12 albums was not arbitrary. Instead, it was inspired by some of the band’s greatest musical influences. “There’s only seven Harry Potter’s. There’s only 12 and a half Beatles’ albums, about the same for Bob Marley, so all our heroes”, he explained.

As reported by the NBC Times, Chris said, “To make an album great as a band, it takes a lot of people’s wrangling, and I want to give the others some life for me.”

Coldplay consists of Chris Martin, Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman and Will Champion as band members. They recently completed the European leg of their Music of the Spheres tour. They will perform in India on January 18, 19 and 21, 2025. Tickets for the much-hyped concert went on sale on September 22, 2024.
