Hollywood actor Dame Maggie Smith died on September 27 at the age of 89 after a long illness. The Oscar-winning star, best known for her role as Professor Minerva McGonagall in the Harry Potter franchise, received an emotional tribute from fans at the Universal Orlando resort.

Smith’s sons, Chris Larkin and Toby Stephens, said in a statement that Smith died early Friday in a London hospital.

Smith was often ranked as the leading British female artist. Of a generation that included Vanessa Redgrave and Judi Dench, with scores of Academy Award nominations and shelves full of acting trophies.
