No one can resist the allure of McDonald’s, not even billionaires. Despite their immense wealth, many of them are just like us in craving a cheese burger with fries. Recently, we learned that two of the richest people in the world, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates and Berkshire Hathaway chairman Warren Buffett, have received a unique perk from McDonald’s – the famous ‘Gold Card’. This special pass gives them access to free meals at McDonald’s outlets as well as exclusive merchandise and food deals. So, don’t be surprised if you see them eating some at the McDonald’s drive-thru or at the counter.

According to the latest update on McDonald’s website, the Gold Card guarantees two free meals per week for 50 years. Mr. Gates and Mr. Buffett proudly showed off their Gold Cards a few years ago. During an interview with CNBC in 2007, Warren Buffett joked that this is why his family sometimes has Christmas dinner at McDonald’s.
Interestingly, each Gold card also has certain special perks attached to it. Mr. Buffett’s Gold card gives him the privilege of a free meal at the McDonald’s outlet in Omaha, while Mr. Gates’ card gives him unlimited access to free meals at any McDonald’s outlet across the world.

In 2022, McDonald’s launched a contest to give ordinary people a chance to own the famous gold card. Winners of the “SZN of Sharing” campaign can enjoy free meals twice a week for 50 years, and they can share this benefit with three other people. To participate, people had to make a purchase on the McDonald’s app during the Christmas season from December 5 to December 25. McDonald’s executive Tariq Hassan said at the time, “Our fans have been fascinated by the lore of the McGold Card and if it really exists. And now, we’ll turn this McDonald’s legend into a reality by giving our fans the ultimate holiday gift.”
