Barbie director Greta Gerwig was welcomed with applause at the Will Rogers Motion Pictures Foundation 2024 as the actress-filmmaker was honored with the Pioneer of the Year award.
In addition to appearing at the event, Gerwig also helped raise approximately $1.4 million for the Foundation for People in Need of Help from the motion picture industry. As the Three Little Women director took the stage to accept her award, she was clearly overwhelmed by the audience’s attention.
As Gerwig received her award, she expressed her gratitude to fans and her well-wishers. During her speech, the actress claimed that she always wanted to be “a little wild” in terms of achieving things in her life.
“I love the work you do to take care of this community,” the No Strings Attached actress said on stage. It’s extraordinary, and I’m proud to be a part of an industry where people spend their time, money, and talent to take care of each other and lift each other up.
He further talked about Will Rogers as the person after whom the foundation is named. Gerwig noted, “So I wanted to talk about that guy, Will Rogers. And he’s exactly the kind of person I love, the kind of person who inspired me to be a part of this world, from rodeo to vaudeville, from movies to newspapers to radio.

He further said, he was an excellent showperson. And the people on the show are not just actors or directors or cinematographers. They are every single person who participates in this wild and wonderful business of dreaming. And telling the story. There have been producers, lawyers, theater owners, executives, sound mixers, caterers, agents, columnists, PAs, and more than any one job or title or project in my entire life, it was to be a showperson.
Talking about the work front, Gerwig has achieved great heights in her career by making films like Barbie, which was highly appreciated by the audience and critics. Additionally, the film won several industry nominations, including a few nominations at the Oscars.
The filmmaker also represented the community and the entertainment industry at the Cannes Film Festival, where the actress-director played a role on the jury panel.
