Jr NTR says South industry is ‘chaotic’, recalls shooting ‘War 2’ ‘spontaneously’
Devraa actor Jr NTR says he trusts his ‘instincts’ more than what’s written in the script when he performs on camera. He recalled an incident from the sets of War 2 to explain this and how the South Indian film industry works.
Telugu superstar Jr NTR spoke about the difference in the ways Bollywood and the South Indian film industry work. He was speaking during a promotional interaction with Alia Bhatt and Karan Johar when he spoke about the way films are shot in the South and shooting for the Hindi film War 2 with director Ayan Mukerji and producer Aditya Chopra.
The popular pan-India star underlined the importance of using one’s ‘instincts’ while acting on camera. He said he believes in showing “beyond what is written” in the script. Jr NTR mentioned that most South films are made in ‘chaos’ as everyone is trying to give their 100 percent and are not limited to just following the plan.
“Too much preparation doesn’t allow you to explore yourself. South Indian films (sets) are always organised in a haphazard manner. Like, if the prints are to come tomorrow, the team will still ask for an extra hour because they want to make some changes in the editing. Time is passing, the prints are to come, but you are still working on the film,” the actor explains.
“We don’t prepare”
She revealed that on the sets of South films, the team often believes in living in the moment. She further added, “You are shooting a crazy sequence tomorrow, but everyone is so calm, we are not preparing at all. We know what needs to be done. I think it is this chaos that brings a lot of organisation and somewhere makes us more comfortable as actors.”
The RRR actor recalled his on-set experience while shooting for War 2. He stars alongside Hrithik Roshan and Kiara Advani in this YRF action film. He recalled an incident when he wanted to go beyond the plan set by Ayan, and tried to make him believe in his work ethic.
He said, “I had the same experience with Hindi cinema. When I was shooting for War 2, Ayan didn’t know what was going to happen. Because he was trying to bring it out of me, it was going to come out that way.”
She revealed that Aditya intervened during the shoot. “I told him, ‘Ayan I am very comfortable, something will come (Kuch na kuch to aayega)’. Now, he is not used to doing that at all, he loves to prepare, and I am the exact opposite. And then Adi sir was in the middle, who said, ‘It’s okay, it’s okay, I get it’,” he explained.
Jr NTR is busy with the release of his film Devraa: Part One. The film will release in theaters on September 27. Meanwhile, YRF’s big film in the spy world, War 2, will release in August 2025.
