According to US media, the first season of the Batman spin-off, Penguin, has garnered over five million viewers, 5.3 million to be exact.

This is higher than the previous season premiere of the hit show Succession, which was viewed 4.9 million times. Its viewership is slightly lower than True Detective: Night Country, which was viewed 5.7 million times.

Penguin stars Colin Farrell and Cristin Milioti. It centers around the dark character of the Penguin. He is often pitted against the Caped Crusader. The character was created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger and first appeared in a 1941 DC comic book.

India Today Digital reviewed the series and gave it four stars.

“Like The Batman, loyalty and morality are at the mercy of those in power and Oz Cobb, played by the brilliant Colin Farrell, is not going to let anyone underestimate him anymore. The Penguin has taken his story from being a crime boss’s henchman to a kingpin, rising to the ranks of Gotham’s crime syndicate. Although no one sees him as a potential threat, apart from a limp on his deformed leg and a scarred face, Cobb is a half-hearted go-getter. He is equal parts scary and impulsive, but also scared and nervous. That’s what makes Oz Cobb a perfect villain. What really elevates Oz’s presence is the mysterious presence of actor Colin Farrell,” reads a part of its review.

The series is available to stream on JioCinema.
