Airline food has been on the radar of passengers after several reports of poor quality food on board have surfaced in recent times. It is natural to expect hygienic food on flights that come with expensive airline tickets. And thus, disappointment mounts when expectations are not met. On Monday (February 27, 2023), chef Sanjeev Kapoor complained about his food on an Air India flight from Nagpur to Mumbai. On the same day, another Air India passenger found a worm in his food and shared a video of it on Twitter.
Passenger Mahaveer Jain was travelling in business class on an Air India flight from Mumbai to Chennai. Mahaveer Jain posted a video of his meal on Twitter, writing, “Found a worm in the food served in @airindiain business class. Doesn’t seem like hygiene was taken care of. My flight was AI671 – Mumbai to Chennai seat 2C.” The video shows a plate of cornflakes and oats with strawberry compote, yogurt and lemonade. And then a tiny black worm is seen crawling all over the food!

Air India spotted the post and promptly responded: “Dear Mr Jain, We are sorry to hear about your experience while flying with us. This is not nice to hear. We strictly follow measures to ensure hygiene at every step of the process.”
However, could you please DM me your flight details with date of travel and seat number? We will pass this on to our catering team for immediate review and action. 2/2

The airline also promised to review and take appropriate action. “Can you please DM your travel date and flight details along with seat number? We will convey this to our catering team for immediate review and action,” Air India said in another tweet.
All these incidents of contaminated food being found in flights and even trains are quite worrying. Have you also encountered such contaminated food during your travels?
