Modern Family actor Nolan Gould recalled his time on the sitcom and his first impressions of his co-stars, including his onscreen sister Sarah Hyland. During his appearance on the Dinner With Me podcast with Jesse Tyler Ferguson, the young actor opened up about how he thought Hyland was too old to play his sister, who was either 25 or 26 at the time.

Gold said she got the chance to watch the hit show when she was 10 years old and it took her some time to understand the dynamics of the show even though it had already become popular with viewers.

In a conversation with Ferguson, who played Michelle Pricett in the series, Nolan elaborated on his affair with Hyland, as he recalled, “I’ll never forget Sarah came in one day and was like, ‘Oh my God, I feel so old.’” He added, “She was 24, 25, and she was saying, ‘I’m getting too old for this.’ I had no idea what she was talking about. And I thought to myself, you are — because I was 16, and I was an idiot.”

Meanwhile, the actor also spoke about the show that brought him fame in the industry. In a conversation with the podcast host and actor, Gold revealed that, being the youngest during the pilot of the show, he used to look up to his senior co-stars and tried to learn several acting skills from each of them.

The actor further explained that even though he was unaware of what was happening around him, it changed him in a big way. “I don’t think I really understood what was happening until I was about 14 or 15. That’s when I became somewhat sensitive, and I thought, wow! This changed me fundamentally,” Gould said.

For his performance as Luke on Modern Family, Gould received numerous accolades throughout his tenure on the show. The sitcom won 22 Emmy Awards out of 85 nominations it received over 11 seasons.

The main characters in the show were played by Ed O’Neill, Sofia Vergara, Ty Burrell, Julie Bowens, Eric Stonestreet, and Jesse Tyler Ferguson. Modern Family aired on the ABC network from 2009 to 2020.
