Actress Krithi Shetty, who recently stepped out of the release of her Malayalam film ARM – Ajayante Randam Moshanam, spoke about how upsetting it is for her to read the experiences of abuse victims. In an exclusive interview with India Today Digital, she spoke about the resurgence of the MeToo movement in southern industries.

In a conversation with India Today, when asked about the #MeToo movement going on in the South film fraternity, Kriti said, “It is very unfortunate in a way because there are a lot of people who have gone through terrible things. But, what is happening now is that they are standing up for themselves because awareness is growing. This awareness will bring about change, so the resumption of #MeToo movement in this way will bring about a positive change in the film industry.”

Talking about how these things affect Kriti on a personal level, she shared, “These things definitely have an impact on a larger level. They get very normalised because everyone tries to assume that our industry is only bad. What is even more heartbreaking is reading about the experiences of people who have actually gone through all of this. I am a very sensitive person, so I get really upset by all these things. For someone like me who aspires to be an actor without any industry connections, reading about MeToo allegations makes one want to question one’s decision to become an actor because, as I said, one normalises it.

Kriti Shetty played a brief role in Hrithik Roshan’s Super 30. She was last seen in the Malayalam film ARM, which received mixed reviews from critics and audiences alike. ARM had a pan-India release on September 12 in multiple languages.
