Veteran actress Neena Gupta is a single parent who has single-handedly raised her daughter, celebrity designer Masaba Gupta. Masaba, who was born out of wedlock, has been quite vocal about her personal life. From being trolled for having “skin like Om Puri” to getting suggestions to eat rasgullas and drink milk for a “fair baby”, the mom-to-be has spilled it all in recent times. Masaba Gupta recently revealed that she was discriminated against in school for being born out of wedlock. She also recalled that when she was in Class 7, a child called her a “badmaash bachchi”.
In a new interview with Midday, Masaba Gupta shared her experience of bullying during her childhood days. Masaba recalled that people knew that she was the child of Neena Gupta and Viv Richards out of wedlock and it was “completely used against her”.
“It was very interesting because the kids would talk about it like adults. I could hear them repeating something they heard at home. One kid said, ‘Hey bastard, I think you’re a bastard kid’. This was when I was in the 7th grade,” she said. The designer also recalled how many people judged her based on her personality or her looks.
Masaba Gupta also revealed how her mother, actress Neena Gupta, raised her single-handedly. The designer also revealed how Neena had to “hide” her baby bump from the outside world as she couldn’t tell anyone about her pregnancy at that time.
Masaba further revealed that her mother Neena did not have her mother and her father was against having an extramarital child. Masaba’s father Viv Richards was also not with her mother. The designer said that the senior actress was also bankrupt but she was happy to have a child on her own.
Earlier, in an exclusive conversation with Pinkvilla in 2020, Neena Gupta recalled that people around her were “sympathetic” and some of the actress’ friends even proposed her for marriage.
The Badhaai Ho actress had said at the time, “A lot of people started sympathising. My friends started telling me, ‘I will marry you, at least your daughter will have a surname.’ And I thought, I will get married to give her a father’s name.”
