As experts predicted late last month, Jennifer Lopez attended the Toronto international film premiere of Unstoppable on Friday, September 6, alongside co-producer Matt Damon, in the absence of Ben Affleck, who, in addition to being the actress’s future ex-husband, is also a co-producer of the film through his and Damon’s company, Artists Equity.
Needless to say, Affleck’s absence from the showcase is due to his recent split from the singer-actress.
Lopez posed for photographers on the TIFF red carpet alongside Damon and fellow cast members Jharrel Jerome, Bobby Cannavale and Don Cheadle. She looked stunning in a voluminous, floor-length silver Tamara Ralph dress that featured high-rise slits on both sides and was tied with large black velvet bows.
She paired the look with a matching metallic clutch, Dolce & Gabbana platform high heels and limited Hassanzadeh jewellery. Her hair was straightened and perfectly polished to draw attention to her eye-catching outfit. Her makeup was nude, which was the same as her hairstyle.
The men, on the other hand, came wearing business casual suits.
Unstoppable is based on the real-life story of wrestler Anthony Robles, who was born with one leg. Despite his disability, Robles aimed to achieve fame and through determination and hard work, won the NCAA National Championship in 2011 while competing for Arizona State University. His inspiring journey is the main plot of the film. Jerome plays the lead character, while Lopez plays his supportive mother.
William Goldenberg, who collaborated as editor with Affleck on Argo (2012) and Air (2023), directed Unstoppable.
Lopez filed for divorce from Ben Affleck on Aug. 20, which was the second anniversary of their wedding in Georgia. The singer-actress put the date of their separation on April 26, which coincides with when rumors of tension between the couple first surfaced. It started with Affleck not attending the 2024 Met Gala with Lopez in New York, after which she extended her stay in the city while Affleck remained on the West Coast. The couple spent much of the summer apart, missing important occasions like their Vegas anniversary on July 4, July 16 and Lopez’s 55th birthday later that same month.
Lopez reportedly filed for divorce after trying her best to save the marriage, but she felt Affleck did not respond to her efforts. According to a source speaking to People, the separation is likely to be messy due to the absence of a prenuptial agreement.
Lopez and Affleck married in Vegas in July 2022 after rekindling their romance in 2021. They held a second wedding with family and friends in Georgia the following month. According to Page Six, an insider described Bennifer’s rekindled romance as an “expensive ending experiment.”
The estranged couple still has at least one more professional commitment ahead, with Lopez set to star in Affleck-produced Kiss of the Spider Woman.
