Health expert told what effect consuming sweet drinks has on our body

Must read

If you have a basic knowledge of diet and nutrition, you would know that sugary beverages are not good for health. Be it packaged fruit juices or soft drinks, it is best to consume such beverages in limited quantities. While most of us might already know that sugary beverages are not the best for our body, we often ignore the health aspect and drink these sugar-laden delicious beverages again and again. Well, in a recent Instagram reel, yoga and Ayurveda lifestyle expert Namita Chandra Pipraiya explained through a skit what consuming sugary beverages does to our body.

In the video, the wellness expert plays the role of a human being and his stomach, intestinal lining, liver and fructose. She then acts out what happens in each organ after fructose enters the body through sweetened beverages and fruits. The expert said in the comments that the purpose of this drama is not to demonise sweetened beverages, but to refute the statement that ‘fruits are bad’.

The expert explained in the caption that sweetened beverages often contain very high amounts of fructose (HFCS). Since they are usually without any fiber, they are absorbed rapidly and can easily be consumed in excess as they do not provide satiety. “The lack of fiber and fullness as well as the susceptibility to excess calorie intake make them harmful.”

On the other hand, fruits contain fiber, nutrients and antioxidants that make them a valuable part of our diet. “They are very filling, so you usually won’t eat much of them (except for very sweet fruits like mangoes etc.),” says the expert.

“Ultimately, the best diets are those that are tailored to your specific needs, preferences, and goals,” the expert says.

Health-conscious viewers were pleased to find this simplified explanation:

One wrote, “Thank you so much for your content, I learn so much about my organs from your page.” Another said, “Your videos are the best tutorials for stubborn people like me who eat sugar like crazy… I will definitely help my poor liver.”

Remember to limit your intake of sugary beverages for healthy liver and gut health.
