According to an official statement issued today, India targets to train 175 Maldivian civil servants through specialised programmes in specific subjects.
A bilateral meeting was held today between V. Srinivas, Director General, National Centre for Good Governance (NCGG) and Mohamed Nasih, Chairman, Maldives Civil Service Commission to finalise the modalities for implementation of the India-Maldives MoU for providing training to Maldivian civil servants over the five-year period 2024-2029.
On 9 August, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed and renewed between NCGG, Government of India and the Civil Service Commission (CSC), Republic of Maldives for capacity building programmes for 1,000 Maldivian civil servants in Male, Maldives.
A statement issued by the Personnel Ministry said that External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Maldives Foreign Minister Moosa Zameer renewed the MoU for the period 2024-2029 as part of the development partnership discussions between the two countries.
Considering the need of CSC Maldives, NCGG agreed to have customized programs for middle level civil servants and senior civil servants of Maldives.
“CSC Maldives has requested for specialized programmes in specific subjects for which NCGG will design need-based modules. Five (5) programmes will be conducted in the year 2024-25, targeting a total of 175 civil servants,” the statement said.
In the year 2024, NCGG has achieved a remarkable milestone by fulfilling the mandate to train a total of 1,000 civil servants, including Permanent Secretaries, Secretaries-General and High-Level Representatives of Maldives in a total of 32 capacity building programmes in regional administration for Maldivian civil servants, including programmes for the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and the Information Commission Office of Maldives (ICOM) under the Memorandum of Understanding signed on June 8, 2019.
Recognising the success of this cooperation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Maldives had requested to renew the MoU for another five years, the statement said.
It said this renewed partnership will help enhance the capacities of Maldivian civil servants in public policy, governance and regional administration, and further strengthen relations between India and Maldives.
The NCGG is committed to promoting knowledge exchange and collaboration on public policy and governance across multiple countries.
Its mid-career capacity building programmes emphasise on citizen-centric governance, improving service delivery and promoting innovations in governance. These programmes also showcase India’s best practices in digital empowerment of citizens and digital transformation of institutions.
