After its stupendous success in the South Indian markets, the much-awaited historical drama ‘Thangalan’ is now all set to enthrall the audiences in North India where it will have its Hindi release on August 30.

Directed by Pa Ranjith and starring Chiyaan Vikram and Malavika Mohanan, the film has received widespread acclaim and box office success in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam since its release on August 15.

The decision to bring ‘Thangalan’ to Hindi speaking audiences has been taken in response to the huge demand from exhibitors in the northern regions. The film has been appreciated for its narrative, action sequences and Pa Ranjith’s distinctive directorial style, making it a much-awaited film in the Hindi film circuit.

The Hindi release was announced by the makers of the film on social media, along with posting an eye-catching new poster and captioning it: “The Son of Gold is coming to North India on 30th August. Get ready to experience the epic tale of #Thangalan.”

Talking about the film’s genre, producer KE Gnanavel Raja said, “With Thangalan, our intention was to break new grounds by creating the sub-genre of ‘mysterious realism’. The film is heavily influenced by mythology, combining these intense elements with a realistic story to create something that the audience can connect with deeply. It is an attempt at a completely new genre – the audience has not experienced anything like this before. Who better to lead this experiment than Pa Ranjith and Vikram? They are adept at pushing the boundaries and constantly offering something new.”

‘Thangalan’ is set against the historical backdrop of Kolar Gold Fields (KGF) during the British colonial period, which delves into the exploitation and plunder of these gold-rich lands. The film’s unique concept and mystical period drama elements, including Malavika Mohanan’s portrayal of a tribal leader with mystical powers, have resonated strongly with audiences, setting it apart from conventional period dramas.
