Vivek Ramaswami says Kamala Harris "a cog in the wheel and a puppet"

Republican leader Vivek Ramaswami said on Thursday that Vice President Kamala Harris is “a cog in the wheel and a puppet,” and suggested that the Democratic presidential nominee avoid talking about policy in her speeches because it undermines her popularity.

Ramaswami, 39, was brought by the Trump campaign to Chicago, the site of the Democratic National Convention, on the day Harris, 59, was to accept the party’s presidential nomination.

“She is a puppet. The reality is that she stays away from policy because the more she talks about policy, her popularity goes down and I think that is our winning strategy,” Ramaswami said in an interview to PTI.

“We win on policy grounds. I think we should go after him more forcefully for his failed economic policies and his record on the southern border. The reality is, if we do that, I believe we will be successful not only in winning this election, but in saving the country,” Ramaswami said.

Ramaswami said Donald Trump is the right choice for the country and he is making every possible effort to ensure that he is elected.

“We will implement this agenda only when we have control of the Senate and the House. So I am trying to help in whatever way I can, and I am also continuing some of my independent ventures in the business world in the film industry and some other areas where I think we can influence the country,” he said.

Ramaswamy is the executive producer of the new film City of Dreams. “It’s actually made by an immigrant director from India, Mohit Ramchandani. Very talented guy,” he said, adding that the film is being released Aug. 30. “I’ve been involved in a number of my business ventures, I have a book coming out called Truths: The Future of America First. That’s also coming out at the end of September. So, a number of ventures outside of politics, because I think it’s important to push those changes in the culture. But the most important objective is to make sure that we not only win the presidency but also gain control of the House and the Senate,” Ramaswamy said.

The American entrepreneur-turned-politician criticised Harris’ open border policy. He said, “I think having open borders for ten million people who have entered this country illegally is disrespectful to every legal immigrant. I also think what Indian-Americans care about and what they should care about is the right to merit in the country.”

“If you’re the wrong race, gender or sexuality, it’s very hard to get into a good college or get a job,” he said. “In the Republican Party, we want to end affirmative action, not because we’re against anybody, but because we’re for meritocracy. That’s why so many legal immigrants come to this country. I think it’s time to restore meritocracy to the United States.”
