A recent viral video has got social media users discussing the efforts required to make money through food delivery apps. The reel features a content creator (@munna_kumarguddu) who becomes a Zomato delivery agent to show how the system works. It has garnered 3 million views on Instagram so far. At the beginning of the clip, he explains that he is going to show us what he did to earn Rs 20 using Zomato. He shows us a phone screen where the order details are available. It displays an address in New Delhi. He clarifies that he has to travel 1.5 kilometres to pick up an order of achari chaap and malai tikka.

The viral post has sparked debate in the comments section. Some users felt the pay was too low and the workers deserved better. Others felt the delivery agents should choose not to work if they are not willing to accept such earnings. Check out some reactions below:

“Meanwhile Zomato is paying crores of rupees to software engineers.”

“Be respectful of the persons making the delivery.”

“Brother the distance was km…otherwise we have to pay delivery charges ranging from Rs 80 to Rs 150.” [“The distance was less. Otherwise, we have to pay delivery charges ranging from Rs 80 to Rs 150.”]

“I did not earn 20 rupees. Bike maintenance and petrol expenses are paid out of my pocket.” [“You did not earn Rs 20. The cost of petrol and bike maintenance goes from your own pocket.”]

“So the hourly rate is around 40, so if you work 12 hours a day for 25 days in a month you will earn 12000 in the lowest bracket… umm.”

“Do the same job in any Western country and you’ll get at least 10 times more pay. Our country is ruined, as long as income inequality persists, we’re not going to get anywhere.”

Earlier, an X post about a Bengaluru resident who became a Blinkit delivery agent for a day had taken the internet by storm. She claimed that she did it because she was curious to know “how they make deliveries in 10 minutes.” Click here to read the full story.
