Apple is gearing up for its fall event where it is expected to release its new range of hardware including the iPhone 16. Along with the iPhones, there are speculations that the company will also release the new AirPods 4 in the market. While the release of the new AirPods was expected, the surprise is that the company is looking to release the AirPods 4 in two variants. According to Mark Gurman’s letter published on Bloomberg, Apple will reveal both variants of the AirPods 4 next month itself, possibly alongside the launch of the iPhone 16. They will offer both an entry level model and a mid-tier model, aimed at replacing both the AirPods 2 and AirPods 3.
AirPods 4: What’s coming?
Apple is expected to integrate the second and third-generation models in the upcoming AirPods 4, which will offer two variants: a budget-friendly option replacing the AirPods 2 and a mid-range model replacing the AirPods 3. As per the Bloomberg report, the main difference between the two will be the presence of active noise cancellation in the higher-end model, while both will share a similar design.
According to Gurman, the mid-range AirPods 4 will feature active noise cancellation, while the entry-level model will not. This is important to differentiate them from the upcoming AirPods Pro 3, which are expected to arrive separately at a later date. Apart from this information, Gurman’s details are limited.
Both AirPods 4 models are expected to use USB-C. As per Apple’s previous differentiation strategy, the entry-level version will only feature wired charging and the mid-tier model will feature wireless charging.
Apple September event: What to expect?
The release of the AirPods 4 is just one step of the event. The showstopper of the event is likely to be the iPhone 16. Apple is yet to release any official information about the launch date, but there are plenty of rumours about the iPhone 16 series. Recently, we reported that the first official image of the upcoming smartphone has surfaced online. According to the post, the image appears to be of a dummy unit, showing the iPhone 16 in two colour options: black and white. The design of the back panel of the phone reveals some interesting changes, especially in the camera department.
In another leak, a new colour for the iPhone 16 Pro was also shared on social media. This rumour suggests that the iPhone 16 Pro range will have a new colour. The leakster, Majin Boo On X, describes the new colour as “Desert Titanium”, and says the colour is “a kind of dark gold”.
Apart from the iPhones and Pods, Apple is also set to launch the Watch Series 10 and Watch Ultra 3. It is also expected that the company may also bring the affordable third-generation Apple Watch SE.
