Actress Rasika Duggal, who recently appeared in Kay Kay Menon’s web series Shekhar Home, has worked on several projects in Bollywood and the OTT space. Rasika is best known for her role as Beena Tripathi in the crime thriller series, Mirzapur. The actress was once tired of playing the role of a weepy woman on screen and is now happy that she is getting different kinds of roles.
In a new interview with The Indian Express, Rasika Dugal recalled the days when she was typecast for crying in her projects. Rasika revealed that every script she would get would have at least two crying scenes of hers.
The Mirzapur actress said, “There was a time when I could read the script backwards and know that there would be at least two crying scenes in the last ten pages.”
When asked if the situation has changed in terms of her roles in scripts, Rasika said that there have been “little bit more feminine happening” in her career.
The Manto actress attributed her success to the rapid growth of OTT in recent times. She said that her films, including her short films, did not get the release they deserved.
Rasika cited the example of Mirzapur to support her statement that she is now able to reach out to a wider audience to showcase her work.
Earlier, in an exclusive GRWM video with Pinkvilla, Rasika Dugal had opened up about carrying a portable hand fan while shooting on sets, including Mirzapur.
Rasika also recalled a fond memory with her Mirzapur co-star Pankaj Tripathi, saying that the two of them have a picture together. Rasika jokingly said that the actress had given her a fan while getting clicked and she called it her “fan moment” with Pankaj.
Apart from Mirzapur, Rasika Duggal appeared in Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s 2018 biographical film, Manto, in which she played his on-screen wife. Rasika has also worked in series such as Delhi Crime, Made in Heaven, A Suitable Boy, OK Computer and others.
Her recent web series, Shekhar Home, premiered on Jio Cinema on August 14 this year. The actress is also known for her role in the Tisca Chopra and Adil Hussain-starrer short film Chutney.
