Holland Taylor, a veteran actress, received an Emmy nomination for her performance in The Morning Show. Over the six decades of her career, Taylor has given some exemplary performances in hit TV shows, movies, and Broadway projects. She also appears in The Morning Show, and in Season 3, her portrayal of Cybil Richards left everyone speechless.
In a recent interview, Holland spoke about one of the most memorable scenes on the show. In this scene, Cybil Richards, who is the chairwoman of the TV network board, sits down with Christina Hunter (Nicole Beharie) on live TV after Cybil sends an insensitive racist email. Holland explained what it was like to shoot that particular scene on the show.
During a conversation with People, Holland Taylor said, “It was kind of meta for Nicole and I, I think, because it touches on personal concerns that someone might have about themselves. (Sybil) kind of gets caught up in a situation where she wasn’t paying attention at all, which is kind of the point. She was careless. And Nicole has to fight for what’s right, even though she herself is a person who has suffered from people who haven’t done right. And her character has that experience, but Nicole has that experience as well.”
Explaining how both the actors wanted to do justice to the scene and do it right, he added, “We both wanted to be alive in the moment and have a risky conversation that was really risky for actors. And we were already apprehensive about it and sweated it out, glued to each other. Even though (our characters) were adversaries, we as actors, definitely were not. So, it was a very multi-layered, multi-faceted experience.”
Apparently, Taylor and Nicole had to give a few takes of the scene and while they were going through the high-tension scene, the show’s crew was equally excited. According to the 81-year-old actress, they were holding their breath and sweating during their performance. When the takeover was over, everyone applauded and appreciated their performance.
Holland Taylor is one of the four women from The Morning Show who have received Emmy nominations for their performances. Beharie has also received a nomination for the same category along with Greta Lee and Karen Pittman. Taylor also praised the cast and crew of the show and also mentioned Billy Crudup. Calling him a stoic and electric actor, the veteran actress shared that he is very generous.
When Holland was asked what’s going to happen in Season 4, the actress advised to stay mum and revealed that she trusts writer-producers Mimi Leder and Charlotte Stoudt.
