Twisters, starring Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar Jones, has been receiving criticism from viewers for not having a kissing scene between the lead characters. Powell played Tyler Owen in the film while Edgar Jones played Kate, who survives the tornado and also shows a fiery chemistry on screen.
While the romantic tension between the characters is too good to ignore, viewers are disappointed by the lack of a single kissing scene. While promoting his new Audible podcast, the Anyone But You star spoke to Screen Rant, where he responded to the criticism the film has received.
Speaking to the media portal, the actor claimed that he is taking the criticism very personally and positively. Powell is happy that people are taking the film and its characters seriously. The Top Gun: Maverick star revealed, “I’m taking it very personally! I’m sure you’ve seen the behind-the-scenes story where I got to kiss Daisy Edgar-Jones, which is all that really matters. (laughs) We had a great time, and I’m really proud of the film.”
He added, “I really think it (the response) also shows that people care, which is really awesome. I just love how excited people are about that movie, and Daisy and I send each other TikToks and GIFs.”

Twisters is the sequel to the 1996 film of the same name. The film was declared a box office hit, grossing approximately $313.9 million during its run in theaters. The film has made the onscreen pairing of Powell and Edgar Jones popular online for their strong performances. While the film has been criticized for not adding a single kissing scene, director Lee Isaac Chung gave an explanation for cutting the kiss scene between the actors.
Chung said the scene was edited out before the final cut was released, as he didn’t want to diminish Kate’s overall arc. The filmmaker also shared that the relationship between the characters is quite strong onscreen and even without a kiss, they fit well into the story.
Twisters takes a different storyline from the one written for the original film. According to the 2024 film’s synopsis, “Reeling from a devastating encounter with a tornado, Kate Cooper is drawn back to the open fields by her friend, Javi, to test a new tracking system. She soon meets Tyler Owens, a charming but carefree social-media superstar who thrives on posting his storm-chasing exploits.”
It further reads, “As hurricane season intensifies, Kate, Tyler and their competing teams find themselves fighting for survival as multiple systems converge on central Oklahoma.”
Twisters will be available on the streaming platform soon.
