‘Khel Khel Mein’ Review: Akshay Kumar shines in this game of love and betrayal
Akshay Kumar leads a number of fine ensemble casts in ‘Khel Khel Mein’, which is a game of love, trust and betrayal. Though the film takes time to blossom, it is a clean comedy that doesn’t rely on double-meaning one-liners, says our review.

The film is directed by Mudassar Aziz and directed by him. Native An adaptation of the 2016 Italian comedy-drama, ‘Perfect Strangers’. What makes ‘Khel Khel Mein’ different from the original is its colourful cast, led by Akshay Kumar, who gives most of the comic moments to the film.
For the actor fondly called ‘Khiladi Kumar’, it is incredibly satisfying to see him excel in a genre like comedy, for which he has a natural talent. The film also stars Taapsee Pannu, who has finally broken her serious image and has made us ask her to come up with more comedy scripts.
‘Khel Khel Mein’ is a story of trust, faith, love and betrayal. The film revolves around the idea that you hand over your phone to your spouse in the hope that you have nothing to hide. Akshay is accompanied by Vaani Kapoor, Taapsee Pannu with Amy Virk and Pragya Jaiswal with Aditya Seal.
It is the story of three couples who get married. They also have a bachelor friend played by Fardeen Khan, who is cast in a completely unexpected role. As part of a tricky game, these characters offer to put their phones on the table, with the condition that they will be transparent about every call or message they receive. If they have nothing to hide, they need not worry. But they must worry, because there is more to them than what meets the surface. Behind their hidden smiles and veiled greetings, there are secrets that are boiling to the surface, waiting to come out.
The plot of ‘Khel Khel Mein’ is engaging. But what makes it worth watching is the way Mudassar presents the fears, worries and insecurities of the characters. The first half is lazy and takes its time in telling us the backstories of these characters. Some of these stories are engaging. Others, are quite boring.
Fortunately, the themes highlighted in the film are not limited to the four walls of marital life. Mudassar has sensitively dealt with topics such as sexuality and abusive work relationships.

Akshay has spread his magic and given you glimpses of his acting in ‘Welcome’ and ‘Hera Pheri’. Taapsee has done a wonderful job as the timid Punjabi housewife who lets loose when faced with an odd situation. Fardeen has a completely different character, which he has played beautifully. Vaani and Pragya are good, while Aditya and Amy have got some funny scenes.
‘Khel Khel Mein’ is a must-watch family entertainer with a message. If you want to watch a clean comedy without double meanings and sarcastic one-liners, this is the movie for you this Independence Day.
