Viral videos can introduce us to a range of baking and cooking hacks. But have you ever seen someone make mini cakes in hollowed out oranges? Recently, a reel took Instagram by storm in which a young man was seen doing just that over a campfire. In the reel by @flockofsebells, a father says “Years ago, I taught my kids how to make molten lava chocolate cakes in oranges over a campfire.” As the video progresses, we see the now grown-up kid making the dish at a campsite.

The father says, “Last night, my son made the best batch of this ever.” The vlogger’s son can be seen cutting off the top of the orange and scooping out the fleshy filling until it’s empty. He measures the ingredients for the cake – which appears to be some oil and fudge brownie premix. He mixes the ingredients in a shallow bowl/plate and then pours the batter into the hollowed out orange. The ‘filled fruit’ is then covered in aluminium foil and placed on a grill over a campfire to bake. “My brother-in-law lit the fire and helped with the actual baking. We all agreed it tasted incredibly good. The student is now the master,” the vlogger clarified.
In the reel, we see someone ripping a piece of sticky cake from a baked orange. Other campers gather to taste it too. The caption of the Instagram post reads, “Have you ever baked brownies in oranges while camping on the mountain? We did this last night, and it was unbelievably delicious. Thanks to Max for perfecting the recipe. Best version we’ve ever eaten.” Watch the full video below:
