Searchlight Pictures has set a Christmas Day date for its long-awaited biopic about legendary singer Bob Dylan, titled A Complete Unknown. Timothée Chalamet stars in the title role, and the cast includes Edward Norton Pete Seeger, Elle Fanning Sylvie Rousseau, Boyd Holbrook Johnny Cash, Monica Barbaro Joan Baez and more.

It looks like the film will take viewers to the vibrant New York City of the 1960s. The film uses key locations to make it true to that era, including the Hotel Chelsea and Cafe Wha?. It will be interesting to see a 20-year-old Bob Dylan from Minnesota becoming one of the biggest voices of his generation. With Chalamet, who proved his singing skills in Wonka, singing himself in this film, viewers are already getting a sense of this from the early trailers and images. He has adopted the persona of Dylan, making a very cool change for the film.

The biopic traces Dylan’s early days in Greenwich Village, where he moved at the age of 19 with great ideas to revolutionize music. From the first melodies he played in folk circles to his fateful decision to join rock ‘n’ roll, it traces his indelible legacy in music. The film promises to show the indispensable and legendary events of Dylan’s life over and over again, from his early performances in folk clubs to his climax at the Newport Folk Festival.

James Mangold co-wrote the screenplay with Jay Cocks and explained why he wanted to make a screen version of Dylan’s life. “It’s an amazing time in American culture, and the story of a young, 19-year-old Bob Dylan who comes to New York with about $2 in his pocket and becomes a worldwide sensation within three years – first joining the folk music family in New York and then, of course, surpassing them at a certain point as his star rises incredibly,” Mangold told The Hollywood Reporter.

The film is executive produced by Bob Buchman, Alan Gasmer, Jeff Rosen, Timothée Chalamet and James Mangold. A Complete Unknown is shaping up to be a cinematic event and in the recently released trailer, viewers will see Chalamet singing Dylan’s famous song “A Hard Rain’s a-Gonna Fall” which plays throughout his stellar performance.

As Christmas Day draws closer, the anticipation for the premiere of A Complete Unknown grows. With a gripping story, a stellar cast, and James Mangold’s vision, this film is set to be one of the best films of this holiday season. Bob Dylan fans and cinema lovers will be waiting for this version of one of the iconic figures of the music world.
