Trisha Krishnan and Indrajith Sukumaran starrer Brinda is finally out for streaming on August 2, 2024. This web series available on Sony Liv is an investigative thriller that is full of suspense.
Starring actors Ravindra Vijay and Anand Sami in lead roles, the series is a very deep and intriguing story that also delves into themes of superstition. If you are planning to watch the show, check out Pinkvilla’s review!
Plot:
Brinda focuses on the story of a newly appointed sub-inspector at a police station in Hyderabad. Due to her cold nature, she is often considered stubborn and arrogant, which annoys many people. Along with this, the police officer also has a bad relationship with her sister.
However, things take a dark turn when a mysterious body is found, leading the police to open a can of worms and a possible serial killer. The rest of the series focuses on how Brinda along with her team manages to uncover the truth and learn more about her life as well.
Good:
Brinda is an extremely engaging investigative thriller backed by a strong and well-researched screenplay. The show starts off slow, taking time to establish the main protagonist and supporting characters. Along with the introduction of the characters, we are also instantly introduced to the theme of the series, making it easy to understand and have an intuitive grasp of the investigation.
Talking about the writing of the show, director Surya Manoj Vangala has brilliantly executed a great story for the lead character, which connects him to the entirety of the show. Even though the character is playing the role of a formidable police officer who can never go wrong, his personality is full of stubbornness and attitude, which makes it even more interesting to watch.
This flawed nature of the protagonist is balanced with a supposedly well-established and flawless antagonist, giving us a dynamic nature to the storytelling. Various characters have their own significance, which makes the experience of the series even better, although some are unnecessary as well.
The series is not just a thrilling investigative drama but also takes a dig at the notion of superstition. The main conflict arising out of such beliefs is presented with creativity and intense clarity.
Talking about the technical aspects of the series, the biggest strength of the show is the screenplay and execution done by the director. Despite being a debutant, the filmmaker has weaved an elaborate and suspenseful world of crime. The dramatic and engaging show was supported by brilliant music composed by Shakthi Kanth Karthik.
Brinda’s original tracks and score have managed to give the entire series a great feel, especially with the opening credits. Apart from this, Dinesh K Babu’s cinematography is also commendable, especially for some low-light scenes.
bad:
Among the characters that did not work in the show, Brinda failed to create an emotional connect with the audience by portraying her past with her foster family. The lead character’s relationship with her deceased adoptive father failed to gain as much prominence as it was expected to.
Moreover, his relationship with his annoying teenage sister may also bother the audience, but actress Yashna’s acting makes it a jolt to watch. Despite the show being 8 episodes long, the rebellious nature of the character is not fully established.
The show has some characters that could have been overlooked, but it also has editing mistakes, especially in its continuity. Smash cuts deviate from the previous shot, which disrupts the spontaneity of the show.
Moreover, the use of VFX in the show is also less, making the scenes appear amateurish and poorly executed.
Display:
Talking about the performances in Brinda, the show owes itself to the subtle portrayals played by Trisha Krishnan and Indrajith Sukumaran. As the lead character, the actress has successfully portrayed a tormented soul while discovering her past and trying to investigate a gruesome case.
On the other hand, Indrajith Sukumaran who comes a little later in the series, quickly grabs the attention of the audience with his subtle mannerisms and restrained nature. The role given to the talented actor is apt for him, giving him a natural growth.
Moreover, actors Ravindra Vijay and Anand Sami support the entire plot with their energy and provide the audience with an entertaining experience. Their characters carry the progress of the plot smoothly and make us want to see more of them on screen. Moreover, Sandeep Jawaharlal Sahu’s acting is also commendable.
Decision:
Brinda is a well-made thrilling investigative drama that is full of suspense. The show easily manages to capture the intrigue and take you on an interesting journey through the dark secrets of its world.
If you love watching Telugu thriller web series with suspense and twists, then this show is a must-watch.
