Sony ULT Tower 10 review: Big party speaker for big spaces and big moments
Some speakers are meant for personal use and on the other hand there is the Sony ULT Tower 10 – a speaker that is made for a completely different purpose. The ULT Tower 10 is a party speaker and while you can have fun with it alone, in this ULT Tower 10 review we find that it works best in the middle of a party.

Just a few weeks ago I reviewed the Sony ULT Wear headphones and I loved them. The headphones had great bass, really good audio quality, were comfortable to wear for long periods of time and were a really good value for the price. In that review I also wrote that stay tuned – Sony ULT Tower 10 is next. This is the big boy of the Sony ULT series audio products. And here I am with the review of the Sony ULT Tower 10.
After using it for about a month and making the ULT Tower 10 a part of my house parties, binge watching, and random music sessions, it’s now time to answer the real question: is it worth it? But wait, let’s change it up a bit. Instead of answering whether it’s worth it or not, I’ll focus on explaining who should buy it, which is what I’m going to talk about in this review. Because see, the verdict is clear: the ULT Tower 10 lives up to its promise, especially with its impressive audio and bass. But this isn’t a speaker for everyone.
Before we go into details, let’s take a look at the specifications of the Sony ULT Tower 10.
The Sony ULT Tower is priced at Rs 89,990. This speaker has a combination of multiple speaker units, including 2 tweeters at the front, 1 woofer, 2 midrange units and 2 rear tweeters. It also offers two different ULT power sound modes – ULT1 and ULT2, with a volume step range of 51 and a custom EQ band for users to personalize the sound. Apart from the ULT button for bass enhancement, the ULT Tower 10 has features like TV sound booster and sound field optimization to enhance the audio output.
The speaker weighs about 29 kg – bad but understandable – and is about 3.5 feet tall. In terms of connectivity ports, the Sony ULT Tower 10 offers a variety of input and output terminals, including a stereo mini jack (IN), USB A, optical digital input and guitar or MIC input (6.3 mm). The speaker system is also compatible with Sony’s smartphone apps, Sony | Music Center and Fiestable. It has a USB power port for smartphone charging, which is useful if you plan to play music through your phone during your all-night party. The top surface of the speaker is splash-proof, which is also useful because given its size, it is likely that people will place a glass or two full of drinks on top of it during the party.
Big and heavy but with wheels
The Sony ULT Tower 10 is a high-end speaker with a powerful audio system inside. As expected, it is quite heavy—around 30 kilograms. The whole unit looks like a large rectangular tower, similar to the large DJ-style speakers we often see at wedding functions or other social gatherings in India. But unlike the no-name boxy speakers that are absolutely ugly, this one is absolutely stunning. We’ll talk about that in a little while though. First up is the size and the complications that result from that.
See, if you are considering buying a speaker system for your home, but don’t have enough space, then the ULT Tower 10 might not be the best option for you. However, if you do have enough space, then it is worth considering as it comes with two wheels for easy portability. However, moving these speakers can be a bit challenging. At least, I found it so, as you have to tilt the speaker towards you to get the wheels to touch the ground. Given the weight of the speaker, this can be a bit of a hassle. However, once you get a good grip, and the wheels are on the ground, you can easily move the ULT Tower 10 from one room to another. But only if the rooms are on the same floor. Want to move the speaker to a different floor via stairs? Well, you will need at least four hands to do that.
The front of the speaker has a large grille, while the back has multiple connectivity options, such as a port to plug in a charging cord, a USB-C port to connect a phone or laptop, and more. The best part, for me, is the top panel, which includes controls for lights, volume, and other settings. When the speaker is on, at least to me, the top looks like a DJ disc, making it fun to control the settings. There is also a place to keep your phone or tablet if you have connected the speaker to it. However, for karaoke, connecting the speaker to a TV is the best option. This way, you not only get stereo sound but also a large screen on which you can read the lyrics. The speaker also comes with a Sony microphone, which is made of good quality plastic and feels premium.
Great audio and bass king
Main question: How is the audio? Well, it’s as good as it gets. Or at least that’s what I experienced. I used the speaker for house parties, connected it to my TV to watch videos and connected it to my phone to listen to casual music. The ULT Tower 10 didn’t let me down even once. The audio was clean, clear and free of any kind of distortion, even at high volumes. Well, in my experience, I could crank up the volume to a maximum of 30 percent, as the speakers are so powerful that raising it any higher than that was bound to result in calls from the neighbours. However, if you are using them for cafe or farmhouse parties, you won’t have to worry about the sound. In other words, there won’t be any aunties to call the police in such a setting.
The audio quality is great, but the best feature is the bass. Just like I liked the ULT mode, which boosts the bass in ULT Wear, the ULT button on this speaker boosts the beats. Be it Punjabi hits or English jams, the ULT Tower 10 handles bass-heavy songs with ease.
Even while watching TV, the stereo sound effect provided by the speakers is really immersive, making it feel like you are enjoying the sound through a home theater system. To enhance the party atmosphere, the speakers also have built-in RGB lights at the top and bottom. You can turn on the lights to get a club-like feel, and you can set the color of the lights from the control panel according to your mood. Once set, the lights sync with the rhythm of the music you are playing. However, I felt that the brightness of the lights could have been better. Although the sound is really powerful, the lights will not illuminate your room enough, so even though it is a good effect, you cannot rely on them as the main light source. For example, if you are having a house party and want to use only the RGB lights from the speakers, it will not be enough for people in the room to manage their food and drinks. You will have to turn on the room lights.
Another feature is the ULT Tower 10’s dedicated port for guitar. This acts as an audio booster instead of the dedicated amplifier found in Marshall speakers. So, you can connect a guitar and play at high volumes, but that’s it – no additional amplification features.
Sony ULT Tower 10 review: Should you buy it?
The Sony ULT Tower 10 is a big, bulky, high-end speaker that delivers great sound quality and powerful bass performance. However, whether or not it’s the right choice for your party largely depends on whether you have the space to fit it in.
If you are looking for a good speaker for your house parties that is portable and easy to carry around, the Tower 10 might not be the best choice. This speaker requires almost as much space as a single-door fridge. However, if you have enough space or you are looking for a speaker for a cafe, or you often host parties and are willing to spend Rs 89,990, then the Sony ULT Tower 10 will not disappoint you.
This speaker delivers great audio quality, impressive bass and gets very loud. It also offers a variety of connectivity options and has inbuilt lighting, which further enhances its visual appeal. Apart from this, it also has a Sony mic, making it perfect for karaoke nights when you want to sing with friends or are alone. And if the ULT Tower 10 is too big for you, you can check out other portable speakers including the ULT Field 7 and ULT Field 1.
