Deadpool and Wolverine grossed approximately Rs 80 crore (USD 9.50 million) at the Indian box office in its opening weekend. It is the sixth-highest opening for a Hollywood film in India. The film outperformed Thor: Love and Thunder, which had a four-day weekend instead of the usual three-day opening.
More important than a big opening is the positive reception the film receives. Several Marvel films have opened well in recent times, but have faltered due to average reception. The positive word of mouth has led to a rise in the film’s collections over the weekend. When films open big, their collections tend to drop on the second day, which would have been perfectly acceptable had this film done so. Instead, the film’s collections saw a rise of around 10 per cent on Saturday. The collections saw a drop on Sunday, which is natural as collections tend to slow down on Sunday nights in big cities, where Hollywood films do most of their business.
Here is the box office collection of Deadpool and Wolverine at Indian Box Office:
Day | Total |
---|---|
Friday | Rs. 25.50 crores. |
Saturday | Rs. 27.50 crores. |
sunday | Rs 26.50 crore |
Total | Rs. 79.50 crores. |
Looking ahead, Deadpool and Wolverine should aim to double their weekend numbers to take the final gross to over Rs 170 crore (US$20 million). It will need a good hold on Monday to reach this; anything over Rs 8 crore will be enough to keep it on track. A provisional look at today’s sales makes this seem possible. The film has seventeen days to go before competition comes from Independence Day releases, which is usually the end of the run for July Hollywood releases.
Comment: These numbers are excluding 3D charges as these surcharges are not reported in India. The “actual” gross, i.e. including 3D charges, is Rs 86.50 crore (USD 10.40 million).
